A month ahead of the Autumn Statement, new analysis from Dover Labour reveals the devastating cuts in government funding to Dover District under the Conservatives.
In 2010, under Labour, Dover District received £9.45m a year in government funding for local services – the equivalent of £13.79m in today’s prices. Today, after over a decade of austerity, when only the wealthy have seen their incomes rise, we receive just £3.84m, a cut of 72%.
These devastating cuts leave Dover District Council with a total spending power reduction of 41%.At the same time, places like Wokingham in the South East have been cut by just 2%.
Publishing the figures, Labour’s Cllr Sue Beer – Cabinet member for Finance – has written to the Chancellor ahead of the Autumn Statement to demand a fair deal for Dover District.
